Cuz it's over 80% of how homo-sapiens talk Mystery definitions my subconscious taught You'll know better how I feel if I do not say Confused? Here's a hint. Look at the sun. It's eclipsed by my... Ever since the dawn of the Universe this is how it's always been. All ain't gonna change for a broken grin. Why did you write this song? You'll be proven wrong. I can't change how you feel! Fuck! Want to compare broad strokes between your and someone else's plight? Build up a tower of excuses to not do wut u can. How things can b fine while someone's writhing: YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!

about

BellyRub have been playing these 6 songs for over five years. We (Justin Grignon and Robin Millar) met in Grade 1 (united by Green Day) and have since been exploring the history of music. Having both played in numerous neighborhood and teacher-guided bands with and without each other before BellyRub, our current form came into fruition early in high school.

We kept these songs quiet and dedicated the past couple of years of our lives towards continually trying to workshopping them. I wrote them (guitar parts, lyrics & melodies) but playing with Robin improved these songs immeasurably with his no-nonsense taste and trademark drum-feel. He helped me cut the fat and guide the songs into a more complete direction.

The lyrics convey themes of social ineptitude, obnoxious/dismissive people, marketable fads, anger, and isolation. Partially there is a responsibility to recognize that I have had these feelings, and that these kinds of thoughts can severely harm anyone's ability to live happily. These are cries for help. Ridiculous, angsty, juvenile cries for help. Lots of people experience this and I feel better knowing I didn't keep these thoughts to myself.

Our first show was a high school assembly (we played the debut of Romantic Cigarettes and walked off). This Christmas concert had nothing to do with us, but thankfully someone on the event's committee fought for us to get up in front of a shit ton of students. The song had always been intended to be played before the school because it is an anti-clique song. This performance stands as one of the most WTF moments of my life.

We chose to work with Dan because of his work on his band Baby Labour's record Full Legal Stop. By the time we walked into his studio, we had maybe 10 live shows under our belts (and we were so scared). I think it shows in the final product! Yay! I hope it captures our ambitions as well as the awkward areas within this lifetime.

Sincerely,
Justin Grignon

Ps. None of these songs are put downs because none of the people in the songs exist. They cannot be traced back to anything other than my own feelings, and yes, even if they are about someone in particular. This is anti-bully music, and anyone can be a bully.
